I just finished reading the Complaint in Compass v. Zillow, filed with the federal court in SDNY. I’ll embed it below and do at least a cursory analysis of it.
I have no opinion on whether Compass will or will not be successful here. We need to wait for the Answer from Zillow to get a fuller picture of the strengths and weaknesses of the case.
However, as is so often the case, when a lawsuit is filed, we all learn something new about the real story behind the public wrangling. We learned about the back-and-forth between the DOJ and NAR when NAR sued the DOJ, for example. This lawsuit is no different.
Buried in the dozens of pages, there is some new information which, if true, could be all sorts of interesting and educational as to the future of the industry. Those of us who are not involved in the lawsuit should care very much.
