Major Development: Roger Alford to DOJ
A hiring gives a clear indication as to where the DOJ is heading
I got a heads-up from a reader (seriously, you guys are the best informed readership in the industry) about a hiring. Normally, I don’t cover things like that as it is merely regurgitating press releases, but in this case, I make an exception.
This is an incredibly significant hire, that provides a pretty clear indication to where the Justice Department is headed as it comes to NAR and real estate.
Roger Alford, a professor at the University of Notre Dame Law School, was just announced as the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division of the DOJ.

The announcement mentions that “he also consulted on antitrust matters, including as an expert witness in the landmark 2023 real estate $1.8 billion litigation against the National Association of Realtors.” That does not do justice to Alford’s record.
